What originally brought James Malone into public service, and why did he run for State Senate?

James Malone has always believed that government should actually work for people—and that when it does not, someone has to step up and try to fix it. He spent over two decades working in the private sector as an application developer, a role centered entirely around solving problems, identifying what is broken, and building something better that works for the end-user. He carried that exact problem-solving mindset into public service when he became Mayor of East Petersburg.

As mayor, Malone found that local government is where real life and policy intersect. When a resident came to him with an issue, it wasn’t abstract; it was their street, their school, or their property tax bill. He recognized that the solution usually was not partisan, but practical. He has always modeled his leadership on listening, working with whoever is necessary, and getting things done.

  • He has consistently governed for all residents, not just the ones who voted for him or agree with him politically.
  • For Malone, this approach is a practical method for solving real issues, viewing consensus not as weakness, but as the primary way things get done.

When the opportunity arose to bring that exact approach to the State Senate, he knew it was the right next step. Lancaster County sent Malone to Harrisburg to be a senator who listens, builds bridges, and puts the community’s real problems ahead of partisan games, and that is exactly what he has focused on every day since being sworn in.
